Welcome To Get In Theatre
Shenley Academy are collaborating with Birmingham Rep Theatre and a music technology and multi- media company, Clevercherry.com, on an exciting performing arts and digital technology project. The project provides a range of creative taster workshops to engage local people, aged 19 and over, who live in and around the Northfield area, into new opportunities to experience a slice of the performing arts and the digital technologies that support production and performances.
With new possibilities of Pinewood Studios being on our door step, or the major growth in new creative or digital technology employment opportunities in the redevelopment of the Longbridge site, this is an opportunity Shenley Academy can provide to local people to enable them to experience tasters of what it would be like to do drama, play writing, stage management, theatre design, sound and lighting technology and music technology.

We have now finished the set of courses beginning in January through to March and have had nothing but positive feedback and excitement from all participants and tutors. Everyone has thoroughly enjoyed being a part of this project as it has been a chance to, not only do something different, but to learn new skills and improve theatrical knowledge...a chance that people wanted more of!
As a result of this success, we are really pleased to be able to link up with Birminghambition, a new organisation working with the Creative Sector, including the Birmingham Rep, to provide some additional sessions under one of their funded programmes, for those that accompanied us along the way the first time round so they can enjoy a more in-depth experience of theatre.
The courses will be running through May (May 10th - May 31st) and you can sign up for Playwriting, Drama or combined Stage Design, Stage Management and Sound and Lighting. You'll be given the opportunity to be tutored by industry professionals, which is one that'd be difficult to come by anywhere else, especially for free!
The last date of the scheduled sessions is one where all participants have been invited to a special viewing of "Noises Off" (by Micheal Frayn) at the REP. Described as "the funniest comedy ever written" (The Daily Telegraph), it should be a fantastic show! Have a look what to expect here.
